Jazz Guitar Project was created by long time friends Paul Desmarais and David Couture.
Dave Couture started studying guitar and began private instruction in 1982. He has been teaching and performing guitar for the past 31 years.
Dave´s professional education and training includes, studying at The Berklee College of Music in Boston, Jazz Improvisation with The Band Directors Academy at Jazz at Lincoln Center, NYC. Private Instruction from several prominent teachers, such as Dan Bowden, Julien Kasper, Jim Kelly, Dave Newsam, and Brett Willmott. Dave has attended numerous clinics/workshops with Gene Bertoncini, Paul Gilbert, Fred Haas, Vinnie Moore, and Jack Wilkins.
Dave is the Assistant Music Director at The Bedford Youth Performing Company located in Bedford NH, where he teaches private guitar and bass lessons. He also teaches various band ensembles. Some of his other responsibilities include organizing concerts clinics and summer music camps and workshops. Dave is the creator of the “Guitar Skill Level Curriculum”.
Dave performs professionally as a soloist and with various ensembles. He is a freelance guitarist and bass player with a diverse repertoire.
Paul has been performing and teaching guitar for 31 years. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, with a focus in Jazz Guitar from the University of New Hampshire.
Paul is also graduate from the United States Army Element School of Music as a guitar player and percussionist. He has attended many military music schools and clinics.
Mr. Desmarais is a New Hampshire Certified Music Educator . He currently works for the Manchester School District where he teaches General Music, Band, Chorus, and Guitar.
Mr. Desmarais also provides private guitar instruction and solo performances throughout the state.
Paul is a retired Military Bandsman He spent 23 years in the military band field beginning as a guitarist for the regular army's 19th Army Band, Ft. Dix NJ, and after 3 years transferred to the 39th Army Band.
During his service he was the guitarist, rhythm section leader, vocalist, and director of the Jazz Band. Paul was also the vocalist, arranger, and enlisted conductor of the concert band. He created the 39th Army Band's Rock Band "Granite Rock" where he performed lead guitar, lead and background vocals.
Mr. Desmarais became the Commander and principle conductor of the 39th Army Band in January of 2007 and retired at the rank of Warrant Officer.
Paul has performed in many orchestras for productions such as Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar, Annie, The Sound of Music, Man of La Mancha, Anything Goes, Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dream Coat, West Side Story, Pipin, A Chorus Line, Children of Eden, Godspell, Urin Town, Camelot, La Traviata, The Magic Flute, Forever Plaid and various other shows.
Along with singing in various bands, Paul has performed the National Anthem for the Manchester Monarchs hockey team and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Nashua Pride minor league baseball teams.
